Ravensworth Elementary, Fairfax, VA. – 2023
This is the sixth grade legacy project installed in the beautiful courtyard at Ravensworth Elementary, a Fairfax County Public School. The students in Ms. Fortenberry and Ms. Mahon’s class learned about native plants in VA and their importance to pollinators. To study flowers and work on observation skills and get ready for mosaics, they made paper mosaic flowers and then worked in groups at the next session to create flowers out of glass petals. I then completed the mosaics in my studio. The pieces were installed in May 2023.
Rocky Run Middle School, Fairfax, VA.– 2021 and 2022
These residencies, awarded by ArtsFairfax spanned 7 sessions of learning about art (mosaics in particular) and the impact of ocean pollution on sea creatures. Students learned about sculpture, painted ocean scenes and finally created their mosaics with a sculpted sea creature of their choosing. These are some of the mosaics made by the students. https://rockyrunms.fcps.edu/features/mosaic-art-display-underwater-sea-creatures
